Whether you are a weekend rider or a professional racer, all riders experience mechanical problems during their rides, often when you least expect them. Whether you are the owner of a high performance racing motorcycle, a vintage classic or a new day to day road bike, it is important to have an extensive knowledge of how to attend to and repair the common problems faced on your motorcycle.

Introduction

Motorcycle maintenance and repair knowledge separates confident riders from those constantly dependent on expensive professional services. While some issues require specialized tools and expertise, many common problems can be diagnosed and resolved with basic mechanical knowledge, proper tools, and quality replacement parts.

Once motorcycles started becoming more reliable, there were still predictable failure points and wear patterns that every rider should be educated on. Whether it's electrical issues that come with age on older bikes, or fuel system problems with modern fuel-injected bikes, identifying symptoms early and implementing the right fixes is one way to keep minor problems from becoming major disasters.

Common Motorcycle Problems & How to Fix Them

1. Stalling a Motorcycle Engine During Use

Engine stalling during operation represents one of the most frustrating and potentially dangerous motorcycle problems. That is usually due to the lack of fuel delivery, a failure of the ignition system, or if there are restrictions in the air intake that causes the combustion to be affected.

Fuel System Diagnosis: Begin by checking fuel flow from the tank to the carburetor or fuel injectors. First see if fuel is flowing to the carb or throttle body. To test for adequate fuel flow, disconnect the fuel line at the carb and open the petcock. Low flow indicates a blocked fuel filter, a clogged petcock screen, or a dirty fuel tank that needs to be cleaned.

Carburetor Issues: Dirty or incorrectly adjusted carburetors cause random fuel feeding and stalling. Clean and unclog carburetor jets, regulate float levels, and check to see if your choke is working.

Ignition System Problems: Faulty spark plugs, ignition coils, or timing lapses, result in misfiring and stalling. Test spark plugs for condition, gap and spark. Replace aged plugs and watch the engine's timing per your vehicle's manual.

Air Filter Restrictions: Clogged air filters will deprive an engine of necessary air flow, which will cause rich running and stalling. Frequently clear or change your air filter, particularly in dusty conditions or following long rides.

2. Motorcycle Brake Problems

The brake system is a critical part of your motorcycle and its reliability is without doubt one of the first things each rider wants to really feel assured about. Common brake problems include spongy lever feel, reduced stopping power, brake drag, and complete brake failure.

Spongy Brake Feel: Air in brake lines creates compressible bubbles that reduce braking effectiveness and create spongy lever or pedal feel. Bleed brake systems completely, starting with the caliper furthest from the master cylinder.

Brake Pad Wear: Worn brake pads will reduce stopping power and if too worn, damage rotors. Inspect pads regularly and replace them as material wears. Some of the high-quality motorcycle accessories online are performance brake pads which not only provide better stopping power but can also last longer.

Warped Rotors: Heat cycling and heavy braking may cause rotors to become warped resulting in erratic brake feel and poor stopping power. Use a dial indicator to measure rotor run-out and discard any rotors out of manufacturer’s specs.

Brake Fluid Contamination: Old or contaminated brake fluid absorbs moisture, reducing boiling point and causing brake fade. Replace brake fluid according to maintenance schedules, typically every two years, using only specified fluid types.

3. Electrical Problems Associated with Motorcycles

Modern motorcycles feature more complex electrical systems which in many cases are the heart of the bike; fuel injectors, ignition, lights and accessories all rely on a good power source on the bike.

Charging System Failures: If your batteries are weak, your lights are dull or you’re having trouble starting the engine, these are signs that you might have problems with your charging system. Check the battery voltage with the engine off (12.6+ volts) and when the engine is running (13.5-14.5 volts). Replace failed voltage regulators or alternators when necessary.

Wiring Harness Problems: Bad connections, exposed wires, and loose connectors result in intermittent electrical problems which can be the bane of any mechanics existence. Check wiring harnesses for damage, clean all connections with electrical contact cleaner with dielectric grease for further protection.

Fuse and Relay Issues: Blown fuses suggest an overcurrent condition and you should investigate before changing out the fuse. Inspect for shorted or overloaded circuits. Change relays out if you hear clicking without the proper relays operating.

Ground Connection Problems: Poor ground connections cause electrical bugs, including dim lights, weak spark, and wonky gauges. Clean and verify secure ground connection, especially to the engine and frame.

4. High Fuel Consumption by the Motorcycle

The excessive fuel consumption is an issue for operating costs, as well as range between fill-ups, a concern for any motorcycle that tours or is used for commuting. There are many reasons contributing to low gas mileage.

Carburetor Tuning Issues: Rich fuel mixtures waste fuel and provide little performance benefit. Refer to manufacturers specifications for main jets, needle positions and idle mixtures. Bear in mind altitude and temperature indicates differences in ideal tune.

Air Filter Restrictions: Dirty air filters cause rich running conditions as the engine compensates for reduced airflow. Clean or replace air filters regularly and ensure proper filter sealing and to prevent air leaks.

Engine Mechanical Problems: Worn pistons, rings, or valves decrease the efficiency of the engine and increase fuel consumption. A compression test the condition of the engine and rectify any mechanical problems before they get worse.

Riding Habits: Rapid acceleration, high speeds, and unnecessary idling have strong effects on fuel consumption. Accelerate smoothly and avoid full-throttle acceleration and extended operation at high RPM.

5. Strong Vibrations at Top Speed

Too much vibration when you're running fast means you've either got out of balance wheels, stale damping or engine mounts going south, all of which can have a big impact on handling and rider comfort. Correct diagnosis is a safeguard against possible hazards.

Wheel Balance Problems: Wobbly wheels cause vibrations that increase with acceleration. Balance wheels professionally or apply wheel weights to remedy imbalances. Inspect tire wear and replace if signs of uneven wear exist.

Suspension Wear: Worn wheel bearings, steering head bearings, or suspension bushings will cause vibratons and adversely affect the handling. Check bearings for play or roughness and replace if necessary. Quality replacement parts for suspension components are obviously needed, along with the appropriate torque specs.

Engine Mount Issues: Worn or loose engine mounts allow the engine to move too much and generate vibrations into the frame. Check for cracking or separation of rubber mounts and replace any worn parts.

Drive Chain Problems: Chains that are out of adjustment or worn cause vibrations and damage sprockets. Keep the correct tension and lubrication, and replace chains and sprockets as sets to ensure proper engagement.

6. Bad Throttle Response

Poor throttle response affects both performance and rideability, when the motorcycles simply don't want to respond to the rider's input. This usually relates to fueling, induction or ignition timing problems.

Carburetor Synchronization: Multiple-carburetor motorcycles require proper synchronization to ensure equal fuel delivery to all cylinders. Use carburetor synchronization tools to balance airflow and fuel delivery across all carburetors.

Fuel Injection Problems: Modern fuel-injected bikes may experience throttle response issues due to dirty injectors, bad throttle position sensors or mapping problems can all cause poor throttle response. Service injectors and ensure the sensor is operating.

Air Intake Leaks: Vacuum leaks between carburetors and the intake cause lean conditions and poor throttle response. Replace intake manifold gaskets and ensure proper clamp tightness on rubber intake boots.

Ignition System Timing: Incorrect ignition timing affects engine response and performance. Verify timing according to manufacturer specifications and adjust as needed. Consider upgrading to performance ignition components for improved response.

7. Failure of Alternator

When the alternator does fail, motorcycles rely solely on the battery, resulting in reduced riding distances and compromising the operation of the electrical systems. Knowing the alternator diagnosis and replacement process may prevent you from being stranded.

Testing Alternator Output: Use a multimeter to test your alternator at different RPM’s. Most motorcycle alternators will be putting out 13.5-14.5 volts at 2000+ RPM. Weak electrical systems often need a change in the alternators.

Stator Coil Problems: Internal stator coil failures cause reduced or no charging output. Check stator resistance according to the service manual for specifications, if not replace stator.

Voltage Regulator Issues: Faulty voltage regulators can overcharge or undercharge the battery, also resulting in damage to the battery and electrical equipment. Check the operation of the regulator and replace if the output voltage does not meet the above specifications.

8. Wear out of Gearbox

Worn transmissions cause poor shift quality and transmission damage if not maintained. Regular maintenance and proper riding techniques extend transmission life significantly.

Gear Oil Maintenance: Replace transmission oil as per manufacturers recommendations with recommended oil grades. Dirty or worn out oil causes gear wear to speed up and shifting quality to be compromised.

Clutch Adjustment: Improperly adjusted clutches cause incomplete disengagement that damages transmission components. Maintain proper clutch cable or hydraulic system adjustment according to specifications.

Shift Fork Wear: Worn shift forks cause poor gear engagement and transmission jumping out of gear. Replace components that are worn and correctly align the fork during the installation.

Synchronizer Problems: Synchronized transmissions can cause stiff shifting especially if synchros are worn. Fix this issue before it becomes a transmission problem and before it destroys the transmission system.

9. Failure of the Clutch

Clutch problems affect power transfer from engine to transmission and can strand riders if failure occurs completely. Understanding clutch operation and maintenance prevents most failures.

Clutch Cable Maintenance: Cable-operated clutch systems must be adequately lubed and adjusted. Replace worn out cables before failure happens and check out good free play at the lever.

Hydraulic Clutch Systems: It's necessary to replace fluids and perform air bleeding of their hydraulic clutches occasionally. Inspect master and slave cylinder for leaks and replace seals if worn.

Clutch Plate Wear: When the friction plates become worn, the clutch begins to slip under load and is unable to properly transfer power. Replace clutch plates when thickness falls below specifications or if burning odors occur.

Pressure Plate Problems: Deformed or damaged pressure plates result in unequal clutch engagement and wear plates prematurely. Use friction plates instead of pressure plates for best performance.

10. Mechanical Problem of the Engine

Engine mechanical problems range from minor issues like worn gaskets to major problems requiring complete rebuilds. Early diagnosis prevents minor problems from becoming major failures.

Compression Testing: Low compression indicates worn pistons, rings, or valves that affect performance and reliability. Perform wet and dry compression tests to determine wear locations.

Valve Adjustment: Incorrect valve clearances affect engine performance and can cause valve damage. Check and adjust valve clearances according to maintenance schedules using proper feeler gauges.

Gasket Leaks: Leaks from gaskets in the engine can also have annoying consequences, with oil escaping and even internal pressure signals when the gaskets have worn down. Replace leaky gaskets as soon as possible and research the root cause of gasket failure.

Timing Chain/Belt Maintenance: Worn timing components cause poor engine performance and potential valve damage. Timing chains or belts should be replaced based on maintenance intervals and not mileage alone.

Preventive Maintenance Tips

As with a car, regular maintenance can prevent most of the common motorcycle problems and help extend the service life. Establish regular maintenance plans for all significant structures before trouble emerges. Adhere to manufacturer recommended service intervals strictly, but consider more frequent service at least for the severe service conditions of racing, dust, or stop and go driving. Quality replacement parts and recommended fluids must be used to keep its motorcycle in good operating condition.

When to Seek Professional Help

While many motorcycle repairs can be performed by knowledgeable owners, certain problems require professional expertise and specialized tools.

Complex Diagnostics like modern fuel injection and ABS systems require specialized diagnostic equipment beyond most home workshops. Brake system repairs, suspension work, and steering head service directly affect rider safety. If you're uncertain about procedures or lack proper tools, seek professional repair.

Major engine work is another area that requires specialized knowledge, precision measuring tools, and machine shop services. Unless you have extensive experience, leave engine rebuilds to qualified professionals.

Conclusion

Successfully maintaining and repairing motorcycles requires combining mechanical knowledge with systematic diagnostic approaches and quality replacement parts. Whether you're maintaining a weekend touring bike or preparing racing machines that demand premium motorcycle race parts, understanding common problems and their solutions keeps you riding safely and reliably.

The key to successful motorcycle ownership lies in proactive maintenance, early problem recognition, and knowing when to tackle repairs yourself versus seeking professional help.
Introduction to Motorcycle's Fuel Pump

How your motorcycle's fuel pump works is something every rider should know. Your bike's fuel pump is an important part of your motorcycle's fuel delivery system to make sure your engine has the correct amount of fuel. Regardless of whether you ride on a high-performance sport bike or a heavyweight cruiser, the fuel pump is an essential component of your motorcycle.

Motorcycles rely on sophisticated fuel injection that needs accurate fuel delivery at certain pressures. Whereas older engines may have simply utilized a gravity feed, or even a mechanical pump, fuel-injected motorcycles now require a fuel pump that can provide a certain flow, at a given pressure to maintain the fuel pressure.

The motorcycle fuel pump has changed to meet varying engine and emission requirements. With better engine efficiency and increased power, fuel systems are now more complicated as the engine needs a specific amount of fuel volume and consistent pressure to fuel the pump, over a wide range of RPM. At Schnitz Racing, we know that great bikes are built with the highest quality parts. We take pride in having a great line of quality products to make your motorcycle perform its best.

How Your Motorcycle Fuel Pump Works

The operation of motorcycle fuel pumps involves a careful process that ensures your engine receives the right amount of fuel at the correct pressure. This process can be broken down into three fundamental stages that work continuously while your engine is running.

Drawing Fuel

The fuel pump's primary function begins with drawing fuel from the fuel tank through the fuel line. This process starts when the pump motor creates a vacuum that pulls fuel through the pump strainer, which serves as the first line of defense against debris entering your fuel system.

Most motorcycle fuel pumps are mounted inside the fuel tank, submerged in fuel to ensure consistent operation and prevent anything from entering that could damage the pump. The pump's intake draws fuel through the strainer, which filters out large particles and debris that could clog fuel injectors or damage components.

Pressurizing Fuel

Once fuel enters the pump, it must be pressurized to meet the demands of your motorcycle's fuel injection system. Electric fuel pumps use a gear mechanism to pressurize fuel, creating the high pressure necessary for proper injector operation.

The pressurization process must maintain consistent fuel pressure. Most motorcycle fuel injection systems operate at pressures between 35-60 PSI, depending on the specific engine design and performance requirements. This pressure must remain stable to ensure proper fuel atomization and combustion efficiency.

Delivering Fuel

The final stage involves delivering fuel through the fuel line to your engine's injectors. This delivery system must maintain consistent fuel pressure while accommodating varying fuel demand based on throttle position and engine load.

The delivery process relies on a closed-loop system that includes fuel rails, fuel injectors, and a return line that routes excess fuel back to the fuel tank. This ensures that fuel injectors receive consistent fuel pressure while preventing your engine from overheating.

Main Components of Motorcycle Fuel Pump

Understanding the components within your motorcycle's fuel pump assembly helps diagnose issues and plan maintenance. Each component plays a specific role in ensuring reliable fuel delivery.

Pump Motor

The pump motor serves as the driving force behind fuel delivery, typically utilizing a brushed DC motor designed for continuous operation. These motors are engineered to operate while submerged in fuel, using the fuel itself for cooling and lubrication. Electric fuel pump motors must overcome varying fuel viscosity, temperature changes, and electrical voltage fluctuations while maintaining consistent performance. High-quality motors incorporate precision bearings and robust designs that can withstand the demanding conditions inside a fuel tank.

Pump Strainer/Sock

The pump strainer, commonly called a fuel sock, provides the first level of filtration in your fuel system. This component prevents large debris from entering the pump and potentially damaging internal components or clogging fuel injectors.

Strainers are typically constructed from fine mesh materials that can filter particles down to specific micron ratings. The mesh design must balance filtration efficiency with fuel flow capacity to avoid restricting fuel delivery under high-demand conditions.

Internal Filter

Beyond the primary strainer, many motorcycle fuel pumps incorporate internal filters that provide additional cleaning before pressurization. These filters typically offer finer filtration than the strainer, removing smaller particles that could damage fuel injectors.

Filter maintenance intervals vary based on fuel quality and riding conditions. Contaminated fuel or dusty environments may require more frequent filter replacement to maintain optimal fuel system performance.

Fuel Level Sender

The fuel level sender provides fuel quantity information to your motorcycle's fuel gauge. This component typically utilizes a float mechanism connected to a variable resistor that changes resistance based on fuel level. Accurate fuel level sensing is crucial for fuel injection system operation to optimize performance and emissions.

Pressure Regulator Electrical Connections

The pressure regulator maintains consistent pressure by controlling fuel return flow back to the fuel tank. This component must respond quickly to pressure changes while maintaining stable regulation across varying flow demands.

Electrical connections provide power to the fuel pump motor and communication signals between the ECU and fuel pump. These connections must withstand fuel exposure, vibration, and temperature cycling while maintaining reliable electrical contact.

Types of Fuel Pumps Found on Motorcycles

Fuel pump designs are different between motorcycles and have both benefits and drawbacks. Knowledge of these differences is useful when looking for replacement parts and or if you’re planning to upgrade your motorcycle.

Electric Fuel Pumps

Electric fuel pumps are most used in fuel injection systems in motorcycles, as the pump can be operated on or off as needed, and the fuel can be more precisely measured. Electric pumps power impeller or gear mechanisms to raise the pressure of fuel for injection systems. The main benefit of an electric pump is the ability to hold constant fuel pressure through all operating ranges, from idle to redline, and under all throttle conditions. Electric pumps also offer higher pressure and flow rates than mechanical versions, which are critical for high-performance applications.

Mechanical Fuel Pumps

Mechanical fuel pumps, while less common in modern motorcycles, still appear in some bikes, particularly older or simpler engine designs. These pumps utilize engine motion, typically through camshaft or crankshaft-driven mechanisms, to create fuel pressure.

Maintenance of mechanical fuel pumps typically involves checking diaphragms, valves, and mounting hardware. While generally reliable, mechanical pumps can develop leaks or lose pressure capability over time, requiring rebuild or replacement.

Vacuum-Operated Fuel Pumps

Vacuum fuel pumps represent a hybrid approach that utilizes engine vacuum to operate fuel delivery mechanisms. These pumps are commonly found in older motorcycle designs and some specific applications where electric pumps may not be practical.

Modern applications rarely utilize vacuum fuel pumps due to the superior performance and control offered by electric fuel pumps. However, understanding their operation is valuable for maintaining older motorcycles or specialized applications.

Conclusion

Understanding how motorcycle fuel pumps work is essential for maintaining optimal performance and diagnosing fuel system issues. From the initial fuel drawing process through pressurization and delivery, each component in your fuel pump plays a crucial role in ensuring your engine receives the precise fuel delivery it requires.

Whether your motorcycle utilizes electric fuel pumps, mechanical fuel pumps, or vacuum-operated systems, proper maintenance and understanding of these components will help you maintain peak performance. The fuel filter, fuel tank, and entire fuel system work together to support your engine's fuel injection system requirements.

At Schnitz Racing, we understand that every component matters when it comes to performance. Your fuel pump may operate behind the scenes, but its proper function is essential for unleashing your motorcycle's full potential and ensuring reliable operation for years to come.

Does Your Bike Feel Left Out?

Got an older motorcycle that didn’t come with a quick shifter like the fancy new sportbikes? You’re not alone. Most motorcycles didn’t get factory quick shifters until the mid-to-late 2010s. The first production bike to feature one was the 2009 BMW S1000RR, but Japanese and other European manufacturers didn’t catch up until much later.

So, What is a Quick Shifter Anyway?

A quick shifter is a performance upgrade that lets you shift gears without using the clutch or rolling off the throttle. It temporarily cuts power to the engine, unloading the gearbox and allowing for lightning-fast, buttery-smooth shifts. Originally built for racing, it’s now a must-have for both track and street riders looking to shave time off shifts and boost overall performance.

How Much Time Can a Quick Shifter Save in the 1/4 Mile?

Looking to squeeze every bit of speed out of your bike? A quick shifter can cut your ET by 0.05 to 0.15 seconds in the 1/4 mile. While that may not sound like much, it adds up—especially in competitive drag racing. Your actual time savings will depend on your bike, shift timing, and riding technique, but it’s free speed without adding horsepower.

Why a Quick Shifter Makes Every Ride More Fun

Full-throttle acceleration – Keep the power flowing with uninterrupted shifts.

Smoother, faster gear changes – No more jerky shifts or lost momentum.

Less clutch work – Your left hand will thank you in traffic.

Effortless city riding – No more fumbling for the clutch during stop-and-go commutes.

Race-bike vibes – Every shift feels crisp and professional, just like MotoGP.

Which Quick Shifter Should You Get?

It’s simple: The HealTech Quick Shifter Easy (iQSE).

The HealTech iQSE works on almost any bike.
We've recently introduced the Trac King Clutch product line and we've gotten some really great response. These clutch plate kits are our #1 selling brand and are incredibly popular with BMW S1000RR owners, who are looking for a replacement clutch but don't want to spend that BMW money

Trac King clutch plates are manufactured to the exact same tolerances as factory oem plates and are used by professional race teams, weekend warriors and street riders alike. These are the same plates we used on the HTP Performance Pro Street Nitrous Hayabusa to run the first 6 second pass in the history of the class.

We have them available for most popular sportbikes and for use with special racing clutches.

Trac King Clutch Plates

A ground up design 3 years in the making, the new Pulse IPT battery offers an industry exclusive 5 year warranty, UNDOT rated case, internal battery over charge and discharge protection and more cranking power than any other brand on the market. All these features, and you can still use a standard battery charger!

PT Battery Management System (BMS) is built into the battery controls the function and behavior of the battery. It protects the battery in the event of a dangerous short circuit, keeps the cells balanced while charging AND while being used, monitors and dissipates heat buildup during high load (starting), keeping the battery from overheating and has a two stage under voltage protection feature. This will prevent your battery from being accidentally drained by your vehicle - preventing damage to the battery, and by pressing the external reset button, the IPT will reset and provide another chance to start your bike.

Advanced Cell Design The cells in the Pulse IPT Batteries are not off the shelf or round cells you find in other brands. These were designed and optimized for engine start batteries. Full Spectrum Power has partnered with the world's premium lithium cell manufacturer to build cells to their exact specifications. These are only available in the Pulse IPT Lithium Battery.

V Direct Multi Terminal Our terminals provide a direct connection to the IPT Battery Management System for maximum output and minimal resistance. The billet copper terminals have 4 threaded mount points, providing additional positive and negative mounting options to attach accessories. Color coded silicon terminal covers provide an easy way to identify the positive and negative terminals and an added measure of protection against accidental shorting.

UNDOT Certification All Full Spectrum Pulse IPT Batteries are UNDOT tested and approved for shipping via commercial carrier.

Advanced Case Design We developed a proprietary nylon/glass fiber resin for Pulse IPT cases. Light and stronger than our previous case, it rejects heat, vibration, gas and oil.

Selectable Power Levels Every Pulse IPT Battery Case has two or more battery power levels you can choose from when you order. If you just need a standard power level to replace that heavy lead acid battery, we've got you covered. Maybe you need a little more punch for the higher compression engine you just installed? Or, maybe you need the maximum available power you can get. Whatever power level you need, we have it!

Full Spectrum Power Pulse Batteries

This can be very beneficial in determining overall engine health or where a potential problem may be.

A solid engine will have less than 5% engine leak down an any cylinder, but generally anything less than 10% is acceptable. If you have 10% or more, you'll want to listen or feel for air coming from the intake, exhaust or crankcase breather. This can pinpoint a problem to the intake valve, exhaust valve or piston rings respectfully. If you pinpoint the leakage, double check the seal on the spark plug hole. Another possibility is a head gasket and the leaking air going into a cylinder next to the one you are testing.

Lead Down Testing is best performed on a warm engine and should be done at least once a year.

The first tool many DIY mechanics grab when engine performance seems to suffer is a compression tester. While the compression tester serves it's purpose of determining what cylinder may be damaged, it will never pinpoint the actual problem. A bent valve, damaged piston, head gasket or warn piston rings can all contribute to a low compression reading.

I feel a compression test should be used as a tool to compare before and after results. Record your readings after a fresh rebuild and compare them to readings at the end of the year or after an event. Keep in mind that engine temperature, cranking RPM, compression ratio, cam lift/duration, cam timing and the duration of the test can all change the final compression test value. This is why it comparing one engine to another is not recommended.

We've gotten some question about this that we'd like to answer.

Q - Will have need to have my bike re-tuned?

A - No. As we make adjustments to the ignition tables and secondary buttery tables we also adjust the fuel tables to compensate for those changes. Your existing Power Commander map does not require adjustments.

Q - Can I removed my previously installed TRE (Timing Retard Eliminator)

A - Yes. We adjust the ignition and fuel tables withing the ECU now and the TRE is no longer required.

Q - Should I remove my secondary butterflys?

A - No. We've adjusted the secondary butterflys to open more aggressively and stay open if required.

Q - Will I still benefit from an ECU Reflash even if I have a TRE and have removed my secondary butterflys?

A - Yes. You will still gain +500rpm to help with acceleration and if you have a gear indicator on the factory dash, it will work as it should after our reflash and removal of the TRE.

Q - Why is your flash so inexpensive compared to others?

A - We sell aftermarket performance parts and want to see those parts perform as they should. Having a restricted ECU will not give you the power gains you expect. We invested into ECU reflashing to help ensure our customers get the proper gains from our parts, without having to go to an outside source that focuses on ECU flashing as their only income.

Q - What is the turnaround time?

A - Typically less than 24 hours. Some ECU's may require 1-2 days.

It's important to remember a few key things that will help to save some time and money when you get the bike back out.

1 - Remove the battery from the motorcycle. This is help to prevent any discharge from any accessories you've wired in like LED lights, alarms or other performance electronics that may accidentally be turned on.

2 - Move the battery to a location that will be free from moisture. You don't really just want it on the garage floor. Put it up on a shelf to help prevent any corrosion

3 - Recharge the battery at least once a month, or use a trickle charger like a Battery Tender. An unused battery will discharge quick than one used regularly. Be sure to monitor the battery voltage even when using an automatic charger. Overcharging can reduce the lifespan of the battery and in some cases a fire.

Weather is changing, and temperatures are dropping. If you're getting ready to store a motorcycle in a shed or garage that isn't heated, but sure to check your anti-freeze, or drain the water out if it's a race only application. You can also check the ethylene glycol or propylene glycol amounts with an anti-freeze tester available at most auto parts stores.

If Engine Ice is in the engine you should be fine. It protects to -27°F

Here are a couple of pictures of the mess a pushed out freeze plug will make in your engine.

Using gasoline or harsh chemicals can cause damage to the O-rings.

Lubricate the chain with a high quality chain lube. It must be fluid enough to get between the chain rollers and plates. It must also be thick enough and adhesive enough to withstand high rotations. On top of that it has a water-repellent role, so you can see why oil or grease are ineffective solutions. Motul Road Formula Chain Lube is ideal and comes in a convenient areasol can to minimize overspray.

Repeat this every 500 miles or after a weekend at the track.
