Product Description
The Kawasaki ZX14R has a number of restrictions programmed into the ECU from Kawasaki.
First it has the top speed limiter that will kick on at an indicated 187mph. Now, keep in mind that the ECU has no idea if the sprockets have been changed so it may come on sooner. We like to think of it more like a 6th gear early RPM limiter.
The secondary butterflies are used to have a nice soft torque curve from 2,000 to 5,000 RPM. We don't want soft do we!?! We want torque and we want it now.
The stock flash file in the ECU also has a safety mode. This seems to kick in anytime the ECU thinks the bike is accelerating harder than it thinks is possible. How you ask? Well if you have changed your gearing or added a longer swingarm you can then out accelerate a preprogrammed ROA (rate of acceleration). Again, the ECU has no idea that the gearing or chassis has changed and it's just doing what Kawasaki said to do. This safety mode causes the secondary butterflies to begin to close and ignition timing to retard.
For Emissions regulations, the ECU will use the stock O2 sensor to en-lean the fuel mixture at light throttle and cruising speeds. This also reduces power output and is why we disable it.
For most of us having to turn off the traction control for racing everytime we start the bike is a hassle and is easily forgotten. We enable the ECU to remember the last TC setting and stay in that position when the bike is restarted.
Lastly, we raise the rev limiter up 500 RPM. Why? Look at the dyno chart. With an aftermarket exhaust system, the engine is still making power at 11,000 RPM. More RPM means more power. And no, we have not had any valve train issues with that higher limiter.
Kawasaki ZX14R (12-15) Reflash Features:
- Increased Rev Limiter to 11,500 RPM (+500rpm from stock)
- Top Speed Limiter Removed
- Secondary Fly's will open more aggressively to give noticeable power gains below 5,000 RPM
- Traction Control Set to Retain Last Setting (Great for those who hate turning that $hit back off every time you turn the key on) *You still have full adjustment and use of the traction control settings.
- Safety Mode Completely Disabled to Prevent Power Loss Under Hard Acceleration (This does not effect your select mode switch)
- Stock O2 Sensor FI Disabled
- Radiator Fans Set to come on at 90*C (194*F)
- Optional: Adjust the Fuel Tables in the ECU to match your Exhaust System (Additional $125)
What is ECU Reflashing? ECU stands for "Engine Control Unit." It is the computer that takes information from the various sensors on the engine like crankshaft RPM, manifold pressure and throttle position to determine how much fuel to deliver through the fuel injectors and when to fire the ignition coils.
The computer "chip" that is the heart of the ECU is usually an EEPROM -- an Electronically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory chip. The Read Only part of that means the chip retains its programming without periodic electronic refreshing; loss of electrical power doesn't lead to the chip losing its programming (It's like the CMOS BIOS of a computer).
"Flashing" the chip involves electronically erasing the read only program and replacing it with new, updated information (the engine control 'map').
How can you offer this at such a low price? We have been tuning sport bikes for 15 years. Our business is offering performance products for motorcycles. If an ECU is programmed to limit power output of that engine, then our products performance will not meet your expectations. We want to ensure you get all you can out of your purchase from us. Pulling the ECU data is no longer a “black science” limited to just a handful of computer wizards that have an exclusive on this technology and expect you to pay 3 or 4 times our price. We’ve been doing this since 2006 on Suzuki sportbikes that were limited. Now we have expanded to various other models.
How does your service differ from others – Our reflashing services remove restrictions that the OEM's have programmed to meet government regulations and that reduce throttle response and power output for novice riders. You are not purchasing a “lifetime” flashing subscription for services you won’t use. Our a la carte style checkout system allows you to purchase only the options you need. While we do offer fuel adjustments to match aftermarkets exhaust systems, we believe that you should have control over fuel adjustments with units such as Power Commanders that can be adjusted to match your specific needs.

Yeah this works - lol
Sent mine in for my 2014 got it back super fast and could not be happier. Great instantaneous performance boost with secondary limits gone, all the way to the new top line ! Guaranteed to bring a :D to your face, no matter how you go about riding this bike to it's max potential, it can now deliver unreservedly with this ecu update from Schnitz. KTRC mem' is a nice addon before having to set it to off every time was annoying. Lets see how many chains can be stretched ;) Yeah I'd recommend it unleash the your ZX !

Perfect!
Absolutely perfect experience. It was more than a simple purchase too. I had to send them an item for them to upgrade, they not only upgraded it to all my expectations, they got it back to me sooner than expected and communicated every aspect during the entire process. I am a tough judge on competent service and these guys left no doubt they know what they are doing.

Best money you can spend on your ZX-14
For the price of admission, this is easily the best bang for the buck mod you can get on these bikes. For me, just having the traction control be able to default to off was worth it and I just consider all the other goodies included as extras.

Great job
I was kinda skepitcal about sending in my ECU off of a Brand new Bike, but I called and got all the information I wanted and from reading about other flashers I said why not give it a try because they all seem the same. So, I called on Monday 11-2-15 paid for the flash with shipping and went to the post office dropped it off. It was received the next day at Schnitz and was flashed and was back in my hand the following day. I was like WOW so I couldn't wait to install and ride, so I did. Low and behold I was blown away! It Really Works! I rushed and had my bike Dynoed that day and all I can say is I'm glad o be in the 200 + club :-) Thanks Team Schnitz!

2015 ZX14R Performance
Had Ryan reflash my ECU, add a custom map to my new PC-V and purchased a Muzzy M10. The performance mods have exceeded my expectations in every way and I couldn't be happier. Ryan is great to work with, excellent customer service, quick turn around time and the best prices I could find. My highest recommendation for Schnitz Racing!!

ECU reflash 2013 ZX14R
I went to a full 4-2-1 two bros carbon M-2 and sent my ECU in for reflash Flash does what it says and will get you on the road with your bike without a PCV or worries of engine damage... That being said I have an obvious HP loss and will need a racing tune on a Dyno to flash my bike properly. For the money...its a no brainer! It gave me time to ride and save the extra $400 I need for for a true custom job to max out my machine in its current set-up. Thanks Team Schnitz for doing it quick and just!

Great value for the tuner
I used this flash on my 2012 and 2010 zx14 and fine tune my bike with a PCV. Like I mentioned in my review of the other ecu, this is the better bang for the buck for the racer who is going to have there bike tuned to there location or fuel choice. Why pay for a fuel tune if your going to do your own anyway. The features they offer with this flash are perfect for the racer. The high dollar tune may be the way to go for the street highway cruiser rider, but this flash does make a big difference in the performance for the money.
