How is a Bracket Determined?

The determination of brackets in drag racing varies based on the track, sanction, and class. Common methods include factors like reaction time, elapsed time (ET), or a luck-of-the-draw system. Brackets are often based on qualifying results, such as #1 vs #16, #2 vs #15, etc., in a 16-bike field. The ranking criteria may include lowest ET, closest to an index, or best reaction time. Brackets can be pro (best vs worst) or sportsman (bottom half vs top half). Class-specific rules, like heads-up or index classes, play a role. In uneven fields, the highest-qualified bike may get a bye run. Familiarity with specific event rules is essential, and race officials can provide clarity when needed.
